Importance of Floor Sanding
While floor screeds offer multiple advantages over sand and cement screeds, you can only enjoy these benefits through perfect and precise screed placement. One of the most important tasks before laying tiles or other floor finishes is the removal of laitance. This is a fine, fragile coating of particles left on the surface of the screed as the anhydrite cures.
The laitance layer is too weak and smooth to support tiles or any other flowing system. This is where floor sanding comes in handy. Using suitable floor sanding machines, a liquid screed contractor removes the coating by light abrasion.
The sanding process takes place 4-6 days after the application of the liquid screed. The result is a stronger floor surface suitable for tiling. Floor sanding also helps with the drying process. After sanding using floor sanding machines, the contractor will apply a primer to the screed surface before application of the tile adhesive.
