UK Screeds is the foremost provider of anhydrite screeds throughout England and Wales. Liquid anhydrite screed has so many advantages over traditional sand and cement screed, not the least of which is that it is so fast to lay. Our teams can lay up to 2,000 square feet in a day, and this is estimated to be up to 20 times faster than you could lay a sand and cement screed which has to be trowelled on by hand.
Liquid screed is perfect for use with underfloor heating since it leaves no gaps around the heating pipes and completely fills them. This means that there is maximum heat transfer to the room, and there are no hot or cold spots, as the heat is spread evenly.
Liquid screed does not need to be laid as thickly as sand and cement, either. While the material is more expensive than sand and cement, the fact that not so much is required and that it saves a lot on labour costs means that a liquid screed works out at about the same overall cost. It is also much faster drying and can be walked on within 48 hours or less, so there is no delay to other contractors on the site. In addition, a liquid screed is self-levelling: we can produce a liquid screed that is level to SR2 and in many instances SR1, and it cannot get any better than that.
There is one thing that a liquid screed needs, and that is floor sanding because as it dries it produces a layer of laitance on the surface and this needs to be removed before the final flooring is laid, whatever that may be.
At UK Screeds we use the floor sanding machines approximately 7 – 10 days after the screed has been poured. The floor is cleaned in order to remove any debris such as nails which would damage the machine. The floor is then completely sanded to remove all traces of laitance which could prove damaging to the final floor surface.
