Although the heating radiator for buildings was invented as long ago as 1855 (would you believe it?) by a Russian businessman, the fact is that even in the mid-20th century they were not common in homes. Most people heated the home using fire and burning coal that was delivered by the coalman in half hundredweight sacks – not an easy job by any means.

At UK Screeds there are some requirements that are necessary before we actually install underfloor heating and/or a screed on a project.

To begin with, the building should be weathertight, so the roof needs to be in place and the windows and doors fitted. If the windows and doors have not yet been fitted, at the very least they need covering with clear polythene. The subfloor surface needs to be clean and free of debris.

Over the last 15 years or so, calcium sulphate, or anhydrite, screeds have grown considerably in popularity and today account for about one quarter of all screeds installed in new buildings.

Making sure your floor is completely ready for a final application of tiles, wood or any other finishing requires you to sand, vacuum and prime your floor so it’s 100% ready for installation of your chosen floor finish.

When you are in the construction industry, one of the things that are necessary for any building is to ensure that the floor is flat and level. That may sound obvious, because we don’t want to walk on bumpy floors and when placing, say, a table on the floor we want all four legs to be in contact with it so that the table stays level.
